appTown is open to your own code and other services. Everything here works with your existing account: no separate developer sign-up.
| Way in | Who it acts as | Use it for | Docs |
|---|---|---|---|
| REST API + API key | you, with exactly your permissions | your code, scripts, other services reading and writing records | REST API |
| Automation API | you (the API key's user) | "do this" endpoints you build as automations | Run automations by API |
| MCP + API key | you | AI assistants and agents | MCP |
| Incoming webhook | the automation (no account needed) | services that can only call a URL | Webhooks |
| Outgoing signed webhook | — | telling your systems when records change | Webhooks |
#What the API can and can't do
The API reads and writes records and starts automations. It never creates or changes apps, tables, fields, views or automations: do that in the builder (by hand or with the AI builder). It sees only published apps and real data, never the builder's draft or test data.
#Start in three steps
- Create an API key in Settings → API keys.
- Check it:
curl https://apptown.app/api/v1/me -H "Authorization: Bearer at_…". - Find your app's ID in its address (
/a/{app}) or its Settings → API, and list some records.
